Happy Time Records

Happy Time Records was a children's music label and a subsidiary of Pickwick International. It was launched in the early 1960s, succeeding Pickwick's earlier children's label, Cricket Records. The label's primary purpose was to release low-priced children's LPs and singles, which were distributed through non-traditional retail channels like supermarkets, department stores, and variety stores, a core part of Pickwick's business strategy.

The catalog consisted mainly of classic nursery rhymes, fairy tales, and popular children's songs, often performed by in-house groups like the "Happy Time Chorus" and "Happy Time Orchestra." The label frequently featured "sound-alike" versions of songs from popular movies and TV shows, with new vocalists and arrangements. While a significant portion of its material was recycled, Happy Time also managed to secure licensing deals with companies like Disney, allowing them to release storybook albums and other kid-friendly content. The label was eventually phased out in the late 1960s, with its catalog being absorbed into the "Mr. Pickwick" imprint, which became the new home for Pickwick's children's music releases.
