The greatest jazz musician of all time, bar none, with a catalogue that includes some of the most important and vital recordings ever committed to tape. Pretty much all of Miles Davis’ repertoire is worthy of attention, but some just stand out even more, with Sketches Of Spain worthy of a place among the elite. Whilst Sketches Of Spain showcases to perfection Miles’ own abilities as a trumpeter, special mention should also be made of the role performed by Gil Evans. A master arranger and composer, he complemented Miles to perfection, producing scores that not only allowed Miles the room to solo but also showcase many of the other musicians involved on the sessions. The overall effect is one of Miles’ most exhilarating and innovative albums. Although more than fifty years old, it still sounds fresh and relevant today. And how many jazz musicians can make that boast?
1. Concierto de Aranjuez (Adagio)
2. Will O' The Wisp
3. The Pan Piper (AKA Alborada de Vigo)
